I’d like to begin by stating I’ve recently become a huge Taylor Swift fan. Not that I disliked her before. She just made music that I considered kiddie bop, something I enjoyed greatly as a preteen but not so much as an adult. She seemed like enough kid though. Especially when I saw her looking all kinds of dazed and confused after Kanye bum rushed her on that 2009 MTV Music awards stage. Admittedly I laughed when I first heard, saying to myself oh Kanye you such a douche, just like a Chicagoan (I’m from Chicago), even the kids aren’t safe lmfao. Then someone actually showed me the much talked about stunt and upon seeing that young girl looking absolutely crushed like Bambi after his mother died  I no longer though it was funny. She reminded me of my own little sister, who is not only an aspiring singer but was a like many girls her age a Taylor Swift fan.

   Then I just didn’t agree with what Kanye was saying. I must have been the only woman of earth who wasn’t in love with Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’, though I do love me some Beyoncé. I just found both the ‘You Belong with me’ and ‘Singe Ladies’ music videos a bit uninspired. So neither video was as Kanye put it “The best video of all time.” What is ironic in my opinion is that Kanye who came from humble beginnings cemented his label of entitled ass as he crowned himself the God of music and issued his decree. While Taylor who I’m told comes from money was left to defend that she deserved what she’d worked hard on.

   And the hits kept on coming for Taylor. She went on to win four Grammys the same year to the chagrin of her fellow country singers. Several people made their disappointment known. Then as Taylor’s star began to shine brighter everything from her love life to her parentage was waged against her. What I must commend is through it all Taylor Swift has comported herself with class and continued to make a point of being a role model to children. Now all of her hard work has paid of big-time.

   I love her most recent album and every single she’s dropped, from ‘Shake’ to her most recent ‘Style’ which is sure to be an instant classic and I’m an old school R&B loving zealot. I’m not the only one either. While in a black female mainstay, an Asian beauty supply, I noticed a Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ playing on the store’s intercom. Since I love that song I began to jam to myself but I was not alone. I happened to over hear a teenage black girl talking to her mother about the song, “Ahh I like this,” said the mother, “Is this the same little girl that sings that Shake song.”  “Yeah,” said the daughter, “This is her new song.” Taylor had officially crossed over.

    In this most recent Album she pokes fun at herself to let her haters know their opinion does not stifle her talent. So to whom does Taylor owe her newfound voice, herself of course. Still though I don’t know the girl personally her good behavior and manners speak to good breading and supportive parents. Before Kanye West it’s likely that Taylor had only previously known praise, which she was in fact deserving of, for her many accomplishments. When someone is raised right and is blessed it may take them a while to recognize how cruel the world can be. Kanye and the rest of her haters challenged Taylor to prove she was deserving of the success she enjoyed.

    If one believes she is only successful because she came from money remember there are plenty others that are blessed enough to have parents with plenty and chose not to earn anything for themselves. Or like Kanye’s wife chose to earn money by doing what only the most unfortunately souls have no choice but to do, porn. I commend Taylor for the way she carries herself. She has stuck to the music and not tried to garner attention with ridiculous antics. If she is up to the same tom foolery folks her age are known for she knows how to keep her business to herself. A lesson lots of young starlets would do well to learn if they had the desire. Sadly most of them don’t and choose not to be known for the quality of there work but by the outrageousness of their actions. (Lady Gaga’ music was mediocre.
