PNW Girl
Who am I?
My greatest struggle when writing about myself, is always avoiding coming across like a personal ad or an entry on an online dating site. (Yeesh!)
Georgia born, but raised in the Great Pacific Northwest, I'd like to say that I'm just an ordinary girl.
I moved to Washington (state) with my mom, who was a single parent at the time, in the summer of '94. She was a cook in the army, but after we got here she met my step-dad and decided this is where she wanted to put down roots. Growing up, I never wanted to be a Washingtonian, but now there is truly no place I'd rather be.
What do I love most in this world? My son.
And my work supporting military families. Really, helping people in general is my passion, so I usually find a way to get involved and give back whenever I can. I am a secular humanist, which means that I believe in people helping people without necessarily needing motivation in the form of eternal reward (or punishment).
If I could add a third thing to that list, it would be adventure! Whether we're talking a trip around the corner or halfway around the world, I am always down to venture into the unknown and experience something new.
Last but not least, cats... I love cats... yes, I am that girl.
Things that interest me and inspire my writing include professional career development, travel, social justice issues, poetry, and my experiences in black womanhood.
I tend to be all over the place at times, so buckle up and enjoy the proverbial ride!
In addition to blogging for The Unfiltered Grind, I also write Poetry and Sci-Fi, a sampling of which can be found at www.pnwgirl.com.
